M.E. Hatwell Gold Medal

The Hatwell Gold Medal (3+) event was completed September 6th. The event ran over four wet and windy days. Eleven players braved the wintry conditions and there were many tight, hard fought games, several being decided after time. The winner of the Gold Medal was Allan Haywood who played extremely well with 9 wins out of 10 games, losing only to Shirley Howlett. Runner-up was Jim Curtis with 6 wins and +40 hoops. However, there were four other players with 6 wins. They were Robert Dignum (+23), Mary Marsland (+11), Shirley Howlett (+6) and Helena Panasewycz (-2).Helena played well considering she has just come back to croquet after a break. Shirley is also one to watch. Full results can be seen on croquetscores.com (here). Many thanks to Hyde Park Croquet Club who rostered members to manage the event. It is a thankless task, especially when the weather is not that great, and their time and effort is truly appreciated.
