In late August 6 teams of secondary students from Tatachilla Lutheran College and Wirreanda High School competed for the SASSASA State Doubles

Championships. The play by both teams was of a very high standard, thanks to the coaching they both received from the members of Aldinga Bay Croquet Club

Winners of the day were Tatachilla Lutheran College. Congratulations to both schools.

It was disappointing that there were not more entries, but we are working on this for next year.

September saw the Annual SAPSASA State Championship Doubles Carnival with 10 teams all from outer metro and country areas. This year we had 2 new schools enter from Seaford Rise and Blanchetown. Once again the students play and behaviour was excellent . As the day progressed so did the standard of play.

Congratulations to all the schools who entered .

Winners were;

Gold medals:

    Tanunda 1 who won all 6 games 167 hoops

Silver medals :

    Tanunda 2 4/6 games 149 hoops

Bronze medals:

    Blanchetown Boys 4/6 games 148 hoops.

As a matter of interest, both Tanunda and Blanchetown have only had one visit from our team and have carried on the sport within the school. This is the second time Tanunda has taken the gold and this year’s team is already coaching up the yr 6 students for next year’s competition.

2005

The 2005 SAPSASA (Primary Schools) State Championships were held on 21 September 2005:

46 students from years 6 and 7 competed from 5 schools. The country schools were Booborowie, Kadina, Tanunda and Aldinga Bay and one city school, Madison Park.

The standard of play from the students  was  very  high  and  their  attitude  and  gamesmanship  was excellent. With so many players we used South Terrace as well as Hutt Road lawns.

The winning school was Madison Park White on a count back from Kadina Blue. Both had equal matches and games and only hoops made determined the winners. This gives you some idea of the excitement.

Richard Newman from SAPSASA presented the medals, Creina Dawson, President  of  Croquet  Australia,  the  certificates,  and  Philip  Hadley President of SA Croquet Association presented the plaque to the winning team.
